#298689 Hamlet With Benedict Cumberbatch

I'm considering membership just for this. Do you think it would be ok to get it now or will it be too soon? Also I believe as a member I can order 2 tickets (for certain performances) at a slight discount, but can I still buy 2 more tickets undiscounted? My daughter wants to take a friend

I was in row C, or front row last night. Yes it was restricted but I'd be more concerned about being spat on or blood spattered than not seeing the casts feet when they're upstairs. It was ok but I might try to go again but from row G ish

We went to see My Fair Lady, and Martine McCutcheon was on.

That must have been the night I was there too. That very night someone collapsed in the row behind me, I blame it on MM actually being on

I eventually got to see this yesterday matinee and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the set and the changes, I never noticed any clunkiness as has been mentioned somewhere before. There were times when it was difficult to hear Laurence Fox when he was speaking quickly but I thought Jack Houston was fabulous. I did like the film noir approach with the set, lighting and costumes. A good afternoon I thought

Saw today's matinee thanks to Nan00se letting me take her spare ticket.  Hiddlestone was simply mesmerising and i always felt he was looking right at me.  I really felt this performance was about the language and the words and i think Josie Rourke allowed this to happen.  Deborah Findlay was just superb, I felt  every emotion in her final speech and Hiddlestone's tears came at exactly the right time. I though Peter de Jersey gave a very good performance too, strong cast all round i think.  One niggle was Fraser's accent, i found it quite comical at times.
On a totally different note, I was sat in Pret just down from The Donmar & firstly saw De Jersey come in, followed a few minutes later by Gatiss. It was only when I saw the show that I realised a number of the cast had been in whilst i was there. Sadly no Hiddlestone though

#288453 Stephen Ward - The Musical

Posted craftymiss on 04 January 2014 - 09:15 PM

Im currently reading the book "How the English Establishment Framed Stephen Ward" by Phillip Knightley & Caroline Kennedy  which is the book the musical is based on.   I'm finding it extremely fascinating tbh. What I do find interesting is the government's refusal to release details of the trial and from what Ive seen on TV etc they are refusing to release the information for many more years to come. Anyway I digress. I hope to return and see the musical in the next few weeks as I did enjoy it and I've been listening to the CD a number of times

Well having watched Sherlock last night I can only assume it was Mycroft Holmes phoning Sherlock to say how much he's hating the show 😉

I don't trust the Mirror as far as I could throw it, so I'm taking this with a mountain of salt.

I like Sheridan Smith, and think she'd be a decent Eliza acting-wise, though I think she's a little old for the part.  But she's not a great singer, she's just ok, and I highly doubt she'd be able to get anywhere near the last note of I Could Have Danced All Night.  The role needs a strong singer.

As for David Walliams, I'm sorry to be blunt, but the less said, the better.  I thought he was by far the weakest in the Grandage Midsummer Night's Dream, and can't think of many people who are less suited to playing Henry Higgins.  He and Smith don't have much chemistry on-stage either.

I totally agree Poster J, Walliams was dire in MSND and you're right, no chemistry between him and Sheridan Smith. This is clearly a joke

I was in Grand Circle tonight for Henry V & 2 women had hot mulled wine & mince pies they placed on the balcony ledge & I heard a woman open a bottle of fizzy. Also a couple sat down from me thought it great to start talking through the St Crispin Day's speech!!

If Higgins goes all Up Pompeii Frankie Howerd then by all means cast Walliams.  I for one saw his Bottom debacle so certainly won't be paying to see him in anything soon
