#286778 Stephen Ward - The Musical

Posted craftymiss on 14 December 2013 - 01:43 AM

I saw this tonight. I quite enjoyed it apart from the court scene which dragged. It wasn't a WOW show but I kept an open mind & just decided to see if I allowed me to pass a couple of enjoyable hours at the theatre & it pretty much did. I thought Hanson was very strong in his singing and acting and the 2 Charlotte's gave solid performances.  I was in row AZ & had trouble hearing some vocals at times; I think because I was too close to the orchestra. Joanna Riding is so so underused in this show but loved her when ahe was on stage

#286521 Bad Behaviour At A Show

ADench ikwym very irritating as well as bad manners. At Henry V a couple of weeks ago there were notices saying late comers Will not be admitted but that was clearly not the case as they were admitted during the first Act. Theatres really need to stick to their guns.

Saw this for the 2nd time tonight and once again blown away by Daniel Mayes; he's fab. In fact I think this visit was even better than at previews

I really hope that RW can do justice to the role.

Somehow I doubt it. He wont have the stamina for 6/7 shows a week let alone 8. Out of curiosity has he ever been in a opera? Can he act? JVJ isn't just about the voice it's about acting, hence Boe's voice didn't keep up with it all and his acting was questionable.

The Sheridan Smith Award for Best Living Female in Theatre goes to...Sheridan Smith.

Sheridan Smith? For MSND? God I hope not it was dreadful. The only person worthy of a nomination in that was Katherine Kingsley. Radcliffe's accent kept dropping when I saw it a few weeks into the run.  I think Lester and Kinnear and also Heffernan should be in for a nomination and I also thought Daniel Crossley was very good in SITR.  No doubt some of the overly obsessive Les Mis fans will group together to ensure Rauch, Hope-Fletcher and Mutu get nominated. Having seen the constant tweeting/RTing "I voted for [insert LM name] in Broadway awards" for the last few weeks I have no doubt the might of the barricade fans will cause a flurry of votes for the show in the WoS awards (don't get me wrong I love Les Mis but sometimes there's a problem with objectivity and a quite narrow view of theatre from many of the fans, if it ain't Les Mis then it ain't worthy).

I liked the Grandage offer, it made me see all the plays when I probably wouldn't have booked for Cripple which I rather enjoyed.

Nominations opened today, and what are we predicting? I can see a Mormon sweep...

I seriously hope so. Stephen Ashfield deserves a win here

I was there last night too Steffi, I've just rebooked for Dec as I have a snaeking suspicion that after Press Night the tickets will sell out.  As ever Wishaw was captivating but for me Daniel Mays was just brilliant, really brilliant.  Grint held his own but it's hard cast against such a fab cast, but for a West End debut he put in a stirling performance.  I dont know where you sat but behind me in the stalls when the lights went back on & Mays & Grint were sat at the table, someone behind me said (quite loudly) "ooo it's Ron Weasley", I did turn around!

A bit (lot) off topic, but I've had 2 visits from a pair of Elders within the week. They asked for me by name as someone from manchester had passed on my details to them.  I said it appears to be a wind up and they asked me if I'd heard of Mormons, I said I had and they asked me how. I said I loved their show :)

Oh gosh I feel inferior to some others on here for liking this show  I should hide now.  I don't drink, don't whoop but have been known to participate by clapping and occasionally standing up towards the end of a show :o . I actually find people talking, rustling, eating, drinking, fidgeting, kicking seats, singing along etc far more annoying. I've had many a theatre evening ruined by drunken chatterers and other than the parts where the audience stand up towards the end of The Commitments I've not experienced a problem at this show so far.
