Sedos presents…

Into the Woods
Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by James Lapine, 2-12 April 2014

Box office: sedos.co.uk

Once upon a time...

In a far-off kingdom lived a young maiden… a sad young lad… and a childless baker… with his wife.

Cinderella wishes to go to the ball. Jack doesn’t want sell his cow. A good baker and his wife are desperate to start a family — but can’t without reversing a spell placed on their family by the witch next door. Little Red Riding Hood wants to visit her grandmother, but gets waylaid by a wolf. A prince hears Rapunzel singing in her tower and falls in love.

Cinderella meets and marries her prince, but is it really “happy ever after”? After all, he is a complete stranger. The baker and his wife steal and lie to get the ingredients for the spell. Jack kills a giant — but giants are just like us — but bigger. The giant’s wife is upset and starts to destroy the kingdom.

Actions have consequences. Fairy tales are not just playful stories. The woods are fearful and deep and dark, but you can’t just act — you have to listen, you have to think — and will everyone come out alive?

Sedos Presents Hot Mikado At Bridewell Theatre, London

09 November 2013 - 04:16 PM

Sedos, the City of London’s premier amateur theatre company, and the resident company of the Bridewell Theatre, will stage Hot Mikado from Nov 27th – Dec 7th 2013.

Sedos’ production of the musical comedy Hot Mikado, based on Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado and adapted by David H. Bell (book and lyrics) and Rob Bowman (orchestrations and arrangements), sees East meets gangster-style Chicago heads-on as the clean lines and colour of Japanese design combine with the big band sights and sounds of popular American song and dance.

The show opens in the late 1930s, at the tail end of prohibition, and then transports you to the fantasy city of Titipu where a ban on flirting has just been passed. A cast of loveable characters bring to life a story of disguise, intrigue, star-crossed lovers and – hopefully – concludes with a happy ending for all!

Featuring an intoxicating mix of dance and musical styles from blues to swing to gospel, (and a few surprises along the way), classics like 'A Wand’ring Minstrel I' and 'Three Little Maids' are transformed into show-stopping numbers that will have you singing in the aisles.

There are just four more chances to check out Sedos' steampunk production of Macbeth at the Bridewell Theatre, just off Fleet St, EC4Y 8EQ - tonight (31 October), tomorrow (1 November) and a matinee and evening show on Saturday (2 November).

Sardines' review said: "As soon as the play began the commitment of every actor hit you in the face with every inch of stage swarming with character, character that as the play progressed and actors doubled up on parts, was never lost… this play was marvellous… This production was meticulously thought out, and it shows… Sedos has set the ‘Macbeth’ bar exceptionally high."
